Lisbon - 1926. Student of Escola António Arroio, in Lisbon, he entered Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisbon in 1942, being transferred for the same school but to Porto facilities two years later. Since the beginning he was connected with the opposition to Salazar's regime. He participates in several protests, being one of the Key-figures of the neo-realism in Portugal. In 1963, he settled in Paris. His participation focuses 4 stars of the Portuguese literature: Luis de Camões, Bocage, Fernando Pessoa e Almada Negreiros. The images of the poets are presented as drawings having a huge charge of gestural power, on white tiles having an irregular aspect. Since 1992, the same sort of panels, but referring to Fernando Pessoa were integrated in Botanique station in Brussels. |
