Diré, Mali, 1953. He studied painting at the National Institut o Arts in Bamako. From 1978 till 1985 he studied at the superior Institute of Art in Havana, Cuba. His work assumes social themes and in Mali since 1990 ha has been making politically and environmentally influenced installations. Since 1978, Konaté has exhibited widely in Europe, Africa, the Caribbe and North America. Konaté lives in Bamako where he is also director of exhibitions at the National Museum.
